AUGUST 2015

Irish senior captain Cari Roccaro (East Islip) was selected as one of 28 NCAA Division I women's soccer players for inclusion on the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list. The MAC Hermann Trophy is given to the top male and female collegiate soccer players in the country.

Roccaro Among Early Hermann Trophy Contenders
(

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the Missouri Athletic Club released its preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists on Wednesday, which included University of Notre Dame senior midfielder/defender Cari Roccaro among the 28 women marked as potential contenders.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, January 8, 2016, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Roccaro played and started in 18 games last season for an Irish defense that allowed just 0.82 goals per contest. She netted two goals on the year, including a game-winner against Syracuse (Oct. 18, 2014), while also notching an assist. Roccaro was an All-ACC First Team selection and an NSCAA All-Southeast Region Second Team pick in 2014, as well as a third team NSCAA Scholar All-American. She will look to anchor a backfield that will once again be a strength for the Irish.

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are current NSCAA College Service members will vote on their top choices and the lists will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process by voting for their favorite semifinalist in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website, managed by LockerDome.

From that pool of 15, three finalists will be chosen for the award, with the winners announced in January.

For more information about the history of the MAC Hermann Trophy and a list of past winners, visit the MAC Hermann Trophy information page at the NSCAA website. NOVEMBER 2013

One of Suffolks finest student-athletes is a candidate for US Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year Award. Cari Roccaro, a East Islip native and four year varsity team member is one of 5 finalists. The captain of the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team, the central defender has played every minute of all seven international matches for that team this year. Known for her mental toughness, physical play and strong tackling, Roccaro is also a skillful player out of the back. A starter on the U.S. team that won the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, this is her second Under-20 cycle. She has started all 18 games she’s played so far this season for the Fighting Irish, scoring four goals with two assists heading into the NCAA Tournament. A versatile player who has seen time at every field position throughout her two-year college career, the 19-year-old Roccaro scored her first hat trick in Notre Dame's 5-0 win against Maryland on Sept. 26.

NOVEMBER 2012

Senior midfielder Morgan Santoro from Islip High School (Islip, N.Y.) and senior forward Jeff Tryon from Montville High School (Oakdale, Conn.) have been named

NSCAA High School Players of the Week.

Santoro is finalizing a stellar high school career, aiding the Buccaneers in two sectional wins last week for the Section 11 Championship title.

She is a four-year starter who, after wading through several offers from Top 25 college programs, has committed to play at Central Connecticut State next season.

In the last six playoff games in which Islip has appeared in the last two seasons, Santoro either scored or assisted on every goal and leads Long Island, N.Y. in both points and assists.

Off the field, Santoro led the team in fundraising for the Kicks for Cancer campaign.

Her head coach, Mike Reilly, said in his nomination: “I’ve coached numerous Division I and collegiate All-Americans and Morgan Santoro ranks up there with all of them and is

one of our finest lady soccer student-athletes.”

The other girls' nominees included senior forward Laura Hill (Pike View HS, Princeton, W.V.) and junior midfielder Sydney Sladek (Pahrump Valley HS, Pahrump, Nevada)
